the truck driver- (remarkable story)

the truck driver- (remarkable story)

We were hungry.  There was rarely enough food.
My three brothers, one sister and I were hungry a lot growing up.

Dad tried to work hard, but sometimes the stress was just too much.  It seemed he could never bring home enough and so alcohol became his companion for many years.

Mom did everything she could to provide.  I’d watch her scrub floors on her hands and knees, tears rolling down her cheeks and witness outbursts I didn’t understand.

Fear and hunger held hands together and gripped most of my childhood, but there was one day, every few weeks that was different.

We never knew which day it would be, but as soon as we heard the big engine of the Del Monte tomato truck slow down – we knew this was the day.

The truck chugged to the curb, came to a halt and then we heard the brakes release with a loud sigh.  This was the day we squealed in delight!

All of us and the neighbor kids ran to the truck that was filled to the brim with fresh tomatoes that were picked only hours before. We scrambled up the truck bed, reaching as far as our arms would reach.  We held the sun-warmed tomatoes for a moment and then we ate and ate.  We ate tomatoes until we couldn’t eat another red luscious bite.

The truck driver waited patiently in his cab until the last child finished eating tomatoes and had crawled down off the truck.  The driver then, waved good-bye, until the next time.

I’ll never know the name of this truck driver, or who he was, and it’s my bet no one ever knew the angelic Sign of Love he was – except for those of us that had tomato stains on our shirts and handfuls of tomatoes every now and again

**** a personal note from Theresa

It seems so fitting today, so beautifully perfect that the message with today’s Sign of Love is just that.

You are loved.

Have you had days where the storm of reaching for other people’s approval pulls you into a tornado of spinning stories, self blame and self accusations you hurl at yourself (all completely false, but doing it anyway). and then you crash in a heap of rubble called – I’m not loveable?

Well, I vulnerably admit, I was just there.

Launching this new website (www.lookforsignsoflove.com) has brought up a bunch of old insecurities and this morning a friend had me pause and be with what was really going on, and she asked me to stop ‘putting a happy face’ over all my stuff bubbling up. (by the way, that’s a true friend)

I needed that ‘happy face’ because I ‘shouldn’t‘ be feeling the way I was.  After all, people who put themselves out there talking about love have their act together!  If people really knew that I was so off balance and imagining whether this person was upset, that friend didn’t understand, that people might not be getting my message and if I don’t do as this person advised, or write like that coach suggested….well?…

You know what it boiled down to?  In order for me to be loved, I had to be and do all these things the way (I thought) other people thought I should be and do…or, I wouldn’t be loved.

I had put a ton of constraints and rules about who I need to be in order for others to love me.
I’ve honestly spent years stepping in and out of who I am, into the whirlpool of what others think, and the idea that they know better than me, about me.

It’s truly why I do the energy work I do.  It’s the work I’m so grateful for because it has been my greatest ‘change’ support.
To be tossed in the sea of self-doubt, unworthiness and most of all ‘unloveability’, it renders us powerless.

There are no words to describe the relief, freedom, and the feeling of your whole being, filled with that warm ray of Love’s pure self-acceptance and deep compassion.  All is well in that place.

Ohhh, when we open and receive that kind of self-love, our hearts melt, we see differently and things begin to flow, we’re so much kinder to ourselves and then our kindness automatically spills out to others.
Life changes that fast, that dramatically.

I’m wondering if you’ve had a day or two like mine lately?

loving you,

Theresa
